Hot Wings and Other Things
Updated: Apr 26, 2019
I am here to tell you–wow! There is nothing like coming home from the office for lunch and finding your son munching on crunchy, delicious, fried chicken wings. And when your wife points at a large bowl FILLED with sweet, tangy, BBQ wings, you would feel very happy indeed.
Life is good.
It is moments like these where I think of the verse “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD” Proverbs 18:22. I am telling you, I could taste the favor, and it went down well with some homemade ranch dressing.
Now, even for the men whose wives do not do a lot of cooking, I want to remind you (and all of us) that marriage is a good thing. It is a blessing. It is not something to be mocked, ridiculed, or looked down upon. That spouse that you love is a gift from the Lord.
The culture, the T.V. shows, the world will laugh at marriage quite a bit. As the U.S. divorice rate climbs, and the singles rate climbs with it, we all have heard and will continue to hear “I don’t need a man/woman in my life to be happy.” I understand that. When I was single, I lived a meaningful life. More significantly, God says very clearly in 1 Corinthians 7 that it is good–and in some ways, better–to be single for the Lord rather than married (1 Cor. 7:1ff).
Just make sure you are single for the Lord and not because you do not value marriage. Married people, just make sure you are married for the Lord as well and not just because you were lonely.
“So whether you eat or you drink or whatever you do, do all to the Glory of God”–1 Cor. 10:31.
I like to think Paul was thinking of hot wings when he wrote this verse (no, probably not), but one can imagine!
